Women's Communities in Europe That Travel With You

October 13, 2026

Which women’s communities keep working when you move cities

Moving between European cities usually means starting your social life over. A new job in Amsterdam after three years in Barcelona, a partner's posting from Berlin to Paris, a year in Copenhagen before heading home: each move resets the circle you built. Some women's communities don't reset. They either let one membership work in several cities, or they run the same network with local chapters wherever you land.

This guide compares the women's communities in Europe that keep working when you move, and explains what "portable" actually means for each one, because it varies a lot.

Three kinds of portability

Communities that "travel with you" fall into three groups, and the difference matters when you arrive somewhere new.

  • One membership, many cities. You keep the same membership and account, and it works in the next city on the list. Les Amis works this way, and InterNations does for its online profile and paid tier.
  • One network, separate local chapters. The brand and format are the same everywhere, but each city chapter is run locally, so you rejoin or reintroduce yourself and quality varies by chapter. Girl Gone International, PWN Global, Ellevate Network and Lean In Circles work this way.
  • Independent clubs linked by a federation. Each club is its own organization with its own membership, but the clubs know each other, so an introduction from your old club can help you find the new one. FAWCO's American Women's Clubs and many International Women's Clubs work this way.

At a glance: women's communities in Europe that travel with you

Every community on this list can help you meet people in a new city. What differs is what happens the next time you move. A local chapter asks you to start over, and a federation of independent clubs gives you an introduction, but only Les Amis combines one membership that works in all 13 of its cities with small, curated, recurring events. That combination is what keeps a circle alive across moves: the same kind of room waiting for you in Paris as in Madrid, a 1:1 introduction every two weeks wherever you are, and a group capped at 8 to 12 women, so the friendships you build are the kind that last.

The free options, Girl Gone International or Lean In Circles, are a good place to start while you’re still settling in, and professional networks like PWN pair well with a social community. But if you expect to move again, Les Amis is the one that doesn’t reset.

Les Amis: one membership across 13 cities

What it is: Les Amis is a members-only women's community built around real-life friendship. Members are matched 1:1 with another member every two weeks and attend curated small-group events capped at 8 to 12 women, from workshops to dinners.

How it travels: "Global access in every city" is part of every membership, so a member in Madrid can book events in Paris or Stockholm on the same account. Members-only trips run worldwide. Les Amis operates in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Paris, Stockholm, Vienna and Zurich, plus Austin and New York.

Cost: In Europe, monthly membership ranges from €45 to €60 depending on the city, with a cheaper rate on quarterly plans, plus a one-time €25 joining fee. In the US it is $55 to $70 a month plus a $30 joining fee. A single Open Event pass lets you try one event without a membership.

Best for: Women who move between major European cities and want structured, in-person friendship rather than a large online network.

Limitation: The network covers 13 cities, so it won't help if your next move is somewhere else. Admission runs through an application and a scheduled monthly membership window, so check the current timing before you plan around it.

Girl Gone International: the free, widest-reaching option

What it is: A community for international women, founded in Hamburg in 2010 by Anne Scott after she moved to her tenth city in ten years. GGI says it has more than 500,000 members and local communities in over 200 cities.

How it travels: Each city has its own community, usually run by volunteers through local groups, so you join the GGI community in your new city and start attending its meetups.

Cost: Free.

Best for: A no-cost way to meet other international women in your first weeks anywhere.

Limitation: Activity and quality depend on the local volunteer team, and many communities are organized mainly through social media groups.

InterNations: the largest expat network, with women-only groups

What it is: A mixed-gender expat network that reported more than 5 million members in 420 cities in its December 2023 factsheet. Many larger city communities run women-focused activity groups with their own brunches and outings.

How it travels: One account works across every city community, so you can join events in your new city as soon as you arrive.

Cost: A basic profile is free. The paid Albatross membership unlocks most events; prices vary by plan and region, so check the current rate.

Best for: Women who want the scale of the general expat scene, with the option of women-only events.

Limitation: The main network is mixed-gender, and women's groups depend on volunteer organizers in each city.

PWN Global: a professional network across European cities

What it is: A professional women's network focused on leadership and career development. PWN reports 26 city networks, 3,300 members, more than 600 events a year and members of over 90 nationalities.

How it travels: City networks include Barcelona, Copenhagen, Dublin, Frankfurt, Lisbon, London, Madrid, Milan, Paris, Vienna, and Zug and Zurich, among others. PWN also offers an online presence for members who don't have a local network.

Cost: Set by each city network. In Milan, premium membership is €130 a year.

Best for: Mid-career and senior women who want mentoring and a professional network that continues across moves.

Limitation: It is career-focused, so it builds a professional network more than a circle of close friends.

Lean In Circles: small groups you can find or start anywhere

What it is: Peer groups of women who meet regularly to support each other's careers. Lean In says there are more than 170,000 Circles in over 180 countries.

How it travels: The format is the same everywhere. After a move you can join a Circle in your new city or start one.

Cost: Free.

Best for: Career-focused women who want a small, recurring group rather than a large network.

Limitation: Circles are run by their members, so finding an active one in a given city can take some searching.

Ellevate Network: a cross-industry professional network

What it is: A professional women's network founded in New York in 1997, reporting more than 280,000 members and over 40 chapters as of January 2024, including London and Madrid.

How it travels: Membership connects you to chapters and events in other cities, though its European presence is smaller than its US one.

Cost: Paid membership; check current tiers.

Best for: Professionals who split time between the US and a European city with an Ellevate chapter.

Limitation: Few European chapters compared with networks built in Europe.

FAWCO and the international women's clubs

What it is: FAWCO is a federation of independent American and international women's clubs. Its own pages list about 57 to 58 member clubs in 28 to 29 countries. Alongside them, many International Women's Clubs welcome women of any nationality and are linked through the Open Door network.

How it travels: Each club is separate, so you join the club in your new city. The benefit is a known format and an easy introduction from your previous club.

Cost: Annual dues, set by each club.

Best for: Women who want a long-established club with interest groups, cultural outings and volunteering, and members of all ages.

Limitation: Some clubs have nationality or residence criteria, and the style can feel more formal than newer communities.

What about Chief?

Chief, the US network for senior women executives, opened a London clubhouse in 2023 and closed it in March 2024 to focus on the US, where most of its members are. As of 2026 its clubhouses are all in the United States, so it isn't a practical option for women based in Europe.

How to choose

  • If you want friends, not just contacts, choose a community with small, recurring in-person events. Les Amis, Lean In Circles and the international women's clubs all meet in small groups.
  • If you move often, check where the community operates before you join, and whether your membership carries over or you rejoin locally.
  • If budget matters, start with Girl Gone International or a Lean In Circle, both free, and add a paid community once you know you're staying.
  • If your move is for your career, pair a professional network such as PWN with a social one, since professional networks rarely produce close friendships on their own.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Which women's communities work in more than one European city?

A: Les Amis lets one membership work in all 13 of its cities. Girl Gone International, InterNations, PWN Global, Lean In Circles and Ellevate Network all run local chapters in several European cities under one network. FAWCO links independent women's clubs in about 28 countries.

Q: Can I use one membership in different cities?

A: With Les Amis, yes: global access to every Les Amis city is included in the membership. InterNations also uses one account across cities. Chapter-based networks such as PWN usually expect you to join the local network where you live.

Q: Is there a women's community for expats who move every few years?

A: Yes. A community that operates across several cities, such as Les Amis, GGI or InterNations, lets you keep some continuity, and a multi-city membership means you don't start from zero each time.
